Dave Greenbaum and I opened the BlueStone Gallery in December 2008 to provide a prime space for the exhibition and sale of the best artwork by the finest artists living and working in the Pike County/Hudson Valley region. We named the Gallery after the indigenous stone of the region, which we discovered to our delight is also the stone from which the Druids magically constructed Stonehenge.
Our idea was to exhibit not just traditional fine art but "functional" art as well – that is, art as broad ranging in its intention and execution as the artists' imagination can reach. So, in addition to great works of painting and sculpture, BlueStone's initial exhibition includes works by a potter, a blacksmith, two wood-turners, a glass worker, and designers of kimonos made from vintage scarves. Dave and I jointly curate BlueStone's exhibitions and we intend to keep our mix eclectic, with quality our only common denominator.
The Gallery is set in a totally renovated 2000 sq. ft. space in a historic building in the center of Milford, PA. Milford is a community on the tipping point of a cultural surge, with the recently opened Relais & Château listed Hotel Fauchére, art galleries, music festivals, the Black Bear Film Festival, and an extraordinary energy that pervades the town. Additionally, we intend to use BlueStone for readings, musical performances, and community benefits so that the Gallery will become an integral part of the Milford community.
BlueStone is a resource for the talented artists working in the region, as well as for imaginative clients interested in acquiring great artwork, at prices which we are committed to maintaining at fair and realistic levels. BlueStone is a unique gallery experience; we hope you will visit us either in person or on our website. Dave and I are available to tell you about our artists and to answer any questions about their work.
